Materials

  • Cardboard cereal box
  • Black felt
  • Nontoxic glue
  • Heavy-duty tape
  • Colored electrical wire
  • Colored wooden beads
  • Tape
  • Small lab coat or adult white dress shirt
  • Rubber gloves

Instructions

  1. Cut a 1½ -inch strip from the cereal box, long enough to wrap around your child’s head (glue or tape two together if necessary). Glue the ends together so it’ll fit snugly, and cover with black felt.
  2. Bend the wire to create any shape you like, add wooden beads, and tape the wire to the inside of the cereal-box band.
  3. Dress your child in the shirt and gloves (she can wear any pants and shoes she thinks completes the look), and make a nametag that says “Dr. Mad.” You can also fill clear bottles with colored water for “potions.”
