Hi friends!

I love to cook and I know lots of you might like it too. Liam Kivirist, one of KIWI’s 2011 Next Great Young Chefs, shared his experience with us to help kids like you and me become good, healthy cooks. And maybe what he has to say will make you want to enter this year’s contest and become one of the 2012 Next Great Young Chefs! You have until July 31 to have your Mom or Dad help you send in your cooking video.

Do you cook a lot at home for your family?
I would not say a lot, but I do cook a fair amount. I sometimes make this really good omelet with basil and apples for my dad.

What’s your favorite food?
I am always exploring new foods my favorite food is always changing, but it right now it has to be Spanikopita, a spinach pie with feta cheese and phyllo dough.

Were you nervous when you made the video for NGYC last year?
I was a little nervous, but I was having so much fun it did not matter.

Do you have any tips for kids who are entering this year about their recipe or video?
Keep it simple and do something you know how to cook well.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
I am not sure yet. All I know is that I love to cook, but I also enjoy inventing games.

What’s your advice to kids who like to cook?
Keep challenged by cooking new things and trying new techniques. Be adventurous in your cooking.

Do you have any quick cooking or cleaning up tips you can give me?
Go play outside and your mother might clean up.
