Put a spring back in your family’s dragging winter steps with warm colors like pink, red, and orange. “Our brains have evolved to hone in on visual cues like color, which trigger emotional responses,” says Soroya Bacchus, M.D. , a Los Angeles-based psychiatrist. “Colors on this end of the spectrum can evoke excitement and energy.” Challenge your kids to create drawings with the brightest colors in the crayon box, then hang them around the house to give everyone a pick-me-up. Or just toss on a red sweater on dreary days; save calming colors (like greens and blues) for sunnier times, says Bacchus.
