beach creature

Materials (for one crab)

  • Hot glue
  • 12 long, narrow shells (such as snail shells)
  • 4 small scallop shells
  • 2 extra-small snail shells
  • 1 sea biscuit
  • Nontoxic paint
  • 2 black-eyed peas

  1. Help your child make the crab legs by hot-gluing together two long shells at a slight angle. Then glue a scallop shell to the end. Repeat until you have four legs.
  2. Create a claw by gluing a small snail shell toward the top of a larger one, as shown. Repeat for the second claw.
  3. Glue the two claws to the two remaining snail shells at a 90-degree angle.
  4. Glue the legs and claws to the bottom of the sea biscuit.
  5. Paint entire crab desired color. Let dry.
  6. Glue on the black-eyed peas as eyes.
