Again! Again! Kiwi Magazine Staff Picks for Ages 3-8

These books have passed what we call the *AGAIN AGAIN* test where you don’t mind reading them for the millionth time.

In no specific order:

Little Pea by Amy Krouse Rosenthal - Simple and wonderful story about a little pea and his parents.  Followed up by Little Hoot, which is also an excellent book, Little Pea will be one of those books that gets tucked into a box for my daughter to read to her kids someday.  You can’t go wrong with any book by Amy Krouse Rosenthal but this one is our hands-down favorite.

Gone Wild by David McLimans - There are so many alphabet books on the shelves, but this one is not to be passed over. Cool illustrations in black and white which depict endangered animals from the Andean Flamingo to a Piping Plover.  Somehow McLimans manages to turn each letter into the animal it depicts and the results are mesmerizing.

Good Boy, Fergus! by David Shannon - Thanks to David Shannon, every time my family meets a new dog, we all say ” Mister Itchy Bobo Scratchitty Man.”  You don’t even have to be a dog lover to appreciate Shannon’s spot-on illustrations and hilarious, yet brief text.  Another author where you can’t go wrong (No, David, No is laugh/snort-worthy), this one is going in the favorite spot on the bookshelf.  We even dusted the shelf first.

Only One You by Linda Kranz - With a combination of photographs of the ocean and wildly painted rocks (made to look like fish), the messages in this book are timeless:  Always be on the lookout for a new friend, Appreciate art and Make wishes in the nighttime sky.  This could be a gift book for an adult or a lovely way to end the day for a child.

Who’s Hiding? by Satoru Onishi - Who’s hiding? Who’s mad? Who has horns? Parents might be a little bit amazed to see that their children will scan these colorful graphic images of animals and find the animal who is hiding, mad or has horns long before they do!  This book has inspired many games for my family and friends where we play the Who’s Hiding game.  This book is completely unique and endearing.
