With the peak sweet potato season falling between late October and December, this delicious orange or purple veggie can be whipped, mashed, fried, or baked into almost any holiday fare.

How to choose them: Pick a small or medium-sized sweet potato with firm, smooth, and even-toned skin.

How to store them: Sweet potatoes should be stored in a cool, dry place to avoid hardening the center. Try keeping them in the basement, away from heated areas of the house.

Delicious ways to use them: Whether sliced into crispy fries, roasted in a seasonal medley, or spiced up with sweet or savory seasonings, there are so many ways to enjoy this yummy root vegetable. Sweet potatoes can also be cubed, cut into chunks, or pureed into a tasty soup. You can whip them into a sweet potato pie for the holidays or add them to a savory chili to warm you up on cold winter nights.
