Hi Friends,
This is a happy time for me. My birthday is April 1st (and that’s no joke!) and March 30th is my “Gotcha Day.” That’s the day that my parents “got” me in China. So, it’s a special time for my family and we celebrate that day by looking at our China video and photos.
Someone else who probably celebrates “Gotcha Day” is Jade-Lianna Gao Jian Peters. Jade-Lianna, who is 11 years old and also adopted from China, is in a new Nick Jr. TV show called Ni Hao, Kai-lan. She plays a really cute Chinese girl named Kai-lan. The show is for kids age two to fi ve, but even though I’m nine I like it because it teaches kids Chinese words. I spoke with Jade-Lianna to fi nd out more about her.
ME: Ni Hao, Jade-Lianna! (That means, “Hello, Jade-Lianna!”) Do you like being Kai-Lan? Is she like you in real life?
JADE-LIANNA: Yes, I enjoy being the voice of Kai-Lan very much. We are alike because we share the same thoughts and feelings, and when I am in the recording studio I feel like I am walking in Kai-Lan’s shoes.
ME: Are the people who play your friends on the show your friends in real life?
JADE-LIANNA: Because I live in Wisconsin and they live in Los Angeles, we are not able to see each other too often; but when I do visit Los Angeles, it’s fun to see them and work with them.
ME: Are the animals in the show your favorite animals? If not, what are your favorites?
JADE-LIANNA: I love all of the animals in the show, because in a way I feel as though they are my real friends. I also love horses and dogs. I have two dogs, one is named Kai-lan and the other one is Sunshine.
ME: Xie xie, Jade-Lianna! (That means, “Thank you, Jade-Lianna!”)
