Approximately 15.5 million kids—nearly two times the number of adults—spend their time helping others through community service. Kohl’s plans to recognize these dedicated children with its Kids Who Care Scholarship Program, which will give scholarship money to 1,900 volunteers ages 6 to 18.

Your school’s craft-time could lead to handfuls of hard-to-recycle glue containers and nowhere to go with them. Starting Earth Day (April 22nd), Elmer’s Glue Crew has a solution. Gather all those used glue bottles and sticks, wash them off and toss them in a designated box (you can download templates to design your classroom’s box at www.elmersgluecrew.com). When the box is full, simply attach a label (also available online) and drop it off at your nearest Wal-Mart.

Since glue containers have a type of plastic that can only be recycled at certain locations, taking them in yourself will ensure they go to a safe place. It will also teach your kids that even though it’s not always easy, recycling is important. Also be sure to check out the classroom resources and prize opportunities on the Glue Crew’s website.

Up the ante with the National President’s Challenge, a six-week (42 days, for those of you following along at home) program that encourages participants to be active for at least 30 minutes a day, five days a week. You can register online as an individual or group (we recommend signing up as a family). Upon registration, you will receive an activity log to keep track of your physical activity. The program begins March 30th, and the free registration starts on March 1st (sign up at www.presidentschallenge.org).
