Don’t Take a Vacation from Good Health This Summer: Nutritional Tips for Keeping You and Your Kids Healthy |
top |
 |
As the weather warms up, here’s how to keep your kids happy and healthy.
- Snack time? Slice up a watermelon. Watermelon is made of 92% water, making it a refreshing and hydrating snack. One serving is loaded with vitamins A, B6, and C to help boost immune systems, fight infections, and promote optimal eye health.
- Be sure your child is getting enough antioxidants. Excessive exercise and sun exposure increases the amount of free radicals in the body. Antioxidants—found in raisins, blueberries, strawberries, broccoli, and corn—can help fight these free radicals and will keep your child energized.
- Keep kids happy by adding omega-3 to their diets. Omega-3 can be found in fish such as salmon and fresh tuna, as well as in red meat, green leafy vegetables, and nuts. Omega-3 fatty acids are said to affect areas of the brain linked to mood and behavior.

Seed Bombs |
top |
 |
You know that public field in your neighborhood that always seems so barren? Wouldn’t it look nicer with some flowers growing in it? Someone should really do something about that. Like bomb it—seed bomb it, that is. Your family can make their own seed bombs out of compost, clay soil, water, and seeds. Mix it all together, roll into balls, and let them dry. Then, throw the seed bombs into empty public spaces (be careful about where you put them—you don’t want any angry neighbors on your hands!), or toss the bombs into your own backyard. This is a great project for summer—easy, fun, plus kids will love getting messy playing with the dirt!
