Staying Healthy During Holiday Travel |
top |
 |
One not-so-happy holiday fact? Since germs spread like wildfire in crowded airplanes (not to mention trains, buses, and subways), trips to Grandma's could leave your family with a case of the sniffles. Fortunately, you can reduce your kid's chances of catching a cold or flu while traveling with these easy, all-natural defenses:
- Wash up. Hand washing is the number one way to prevent the spread of harmful bacteria. Don't have access to suds and warm water? Try a plant-based hand sanitizer, like EO's hand-cleansing wipes ($6) or sanitizing spray ($5, eoproducts.com).
- Don't touch! The face, that is. Your kid could still pick up germs in between hand washings, so remind her to keep her hands away from her mouth, eyes, and nose to reduce the spread of germs.
- Get more C. Vitamin C is a well-known cold and flu fighter and is found in foods like oranges, red bell peppers, broccoli, and kiwifruit. Pack your kid's favorite immunity-building foods in reusable containers for a healthy mid-journey snack.

Choose Fresh Over Canned for Thanksgiving |

As you get ready to feast with your family this month, you might think twice before reaching for the canned pumpkin: According to the latest tests by Consumer Reports, measurable levels of BPA are found in a number of canned foods, even those labeled organic or BPA-free. How can you bypass the risk as you stock up for the holidays? Choose fresh fall produce like broccoli, pumpkins, and spinach over their canned counterparts. Bonus Recipe: See how easy it is to make your own pumpkin pie puree at KiwiLog. |
