You Are What You Eat
A recent study held at the University of Southampton in Great Britain shows that certain food colorings and additives add to behavior changes. Two groups of more than 300 children were tested using fruit drinks spiked with food colorings and additives. The fruit drinks used contained mixtures of the additives yellow coloring (E110), carmoisine (E122), FoodColoringtartrazine (E102), ponceau 4R (E124), the preservative sodium benzoate (E211) and other colors. One group was composed of three year olds and the other of eight to nine year olds. When fed the spiked drink, each group showed significant behavior changes, such as “extreme hyperactivity.” To read more about the study, click here.
The Greener Side of Campus
The environment is on everyone’s minds these days, especially in the thoughts of the younger generation. Every outlet, from MySpace to Facebook to documentaries like Leonardo DiCaprio’s The 11th Hour, has taken a green GreenReporttwist. America’s youth is aware of everything environmental from global warming to sustainability. So much so, that colleges and universities across the United States have become more and more eco friendly with each passing year. How do you make sure your high school student attends a college that reflects his/her environmental beliefs? To help in this endeavor, KIWI has complied a list of the top 50 eco friendly colleges and universities in The KIWI Green College Report. For a free download, click here.
