Late nights, early mornings, and a never-ending to-do list can leave moms with very limited time for morning primping—five minutes, if you’re lucky! Fortunately, there’s a quick beauty trick for getting that bright-eyed, well-rested look. Highlighter makeup adds a soft glimmer to the face and, when applied in the right places, catches and reflects light for a natural-looking glow.

Our natural, skin-safe picks will help you achieve the look:

beauty trick 1To brighten tired eyes

Jane Iredale’s double-ended Highlighter Pencil uses two different shades to open up the eyes. Sweep the pencil over the brow bone or use it to line the inside corners of your eyes to wake them up and add a little extra shimmer. Bonus: The pencil comes with a handy sharpener ($15.50, janeiredale.com).

beauty trick 2For a glowing complexion

If you like a stick
: The InTouch Highlighter from Jane Iredale comes in a creamy roll-on stick. Apply this product as shown in the tutorial, and use a brush or your fingers to blend it in. Light will reflect off the cheeks and cheekbones, creating a more radiant appearance ($28, janeiredale.com).

beauty trick 3If you prefer a powder: The Baked Highlighter duo from Laura Geller features two shades in one compact and a double-ended sponge applicator that makes it easy to brush the highlighter onto different parts of the face. Use the small end of the applicator to highlight the eyes and the larger end to sweep the product across your forehead, cheekbones, and the bridge of your nose. For a creamier sheen, try dampening the applicator and applying the highlighter wet ($42.50, laurageller.com).

beauty trick 4If you want to try a paper: Mai Couture’s Highlighter Papier comes in the form of thin sheets that you press and glide onto your skin. You can use them on cheekbones, chin, and the bridge of your nose for a brighter complexion. The product comes in a compact booklet of 50 sheets that’s perfect for touch-ups on the go ($28, maicouture.com).
