Julie Andersen

CEO, Plastic Oceans

Julie Andersen is the CEO of Plastic Oceans International and a lifelong public health advocate focused on the communication of science and disruption of societal barriers to protect human health and the environment from the negative effects of industrial development. She has worked in public health and nonprofit management internationally for the past 20 years, including the United States, Japan, Hong Kong, and Thailand. Julie earned her bachelor of science in Biochemistry and Cell Biology from the University of California, San Diego, and her master of public health from Hunter College in New York City. Raised in San Diego, Julie is a swimmer and triathlete, and the ocean has always been an important part of her daily life. Julie’s Plastic Oceans work combines her career protecting human and environmental health, life sciences education, and love for the ocean. She resides in Malibu, California with her family.

Daryaneh Badaly

Clinical Neuropsychologist in the Learning and Development Center at the Child Mind Institute

Dr. Badaly has expertise providing neuropsychological evaluations to individuals across a broad age range, from preschool-age children to young adults. She has worked with individuals who have a wide variety of developmental, learning, and psychiatric concerns. She has served in specialty clinics for children with autism spectrum disorder and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder. Dr. Badaly strives to conduct comprehensive evaluations to best understand each child’s strengths and weaknesses, and relies on up-to-date research findings to identify appropriate interventions to optimize academic, social and emotional functioning.

Jaclyn Bowen

Executive director, Clean Label Project

Jaclyn Bowen MPH, MS is a food and consumer products quality and safety systems engineer and executive director of Clean Label Project, a national non-profit and standards development organization with the mission to bring truth and transparency to food and consumer product labeling. Her expertise is in organic, gluten-free, non-gmo labeling, food safety, and label claim substantiation and compliance. Bowen conducted one of the most comprehensive peer-reviewed studies of heavy metals in the top-selling baby foods and infant formulas in America- testing 561 products for pesticides, heavy metals, plasticizers, and more.

Ashlan Cousteau

Co-founder, EarthEcho International

A National Geographic “Emerging Explorer,” filmmaker and globally recognized advocate on water issues, Alexandra Cousteau continues the work of her renowned grandfather Jacques-Yves Cousteau and her father Philippe Cousteau, Sr. She has mastered the remarkable storytelling tradition handed down to her and has the unique ability to inspire audiences on the weighty issues of policy, politics and action. Alexandra is dedicated to advocating the importance of conservation and sustainable management of water in order to preserve a healthy planet. Her global initiatives seek to inspire and empower individuals to protect not only the ocean and its inhabitants, but also the human communities that rely on freshwater resources.

Philippe Cousteau

Co-founder, EarthEcho International

Philippe is a multi Emmy-nominated TV host, author, speaker, and social entrepreneur. He has hosted numerous TV programs for Discovery, BBC, CNN, Travel Channel and more. Currently he is the host of the syndicated television show Xploration Awesome Planet, now in its sixth season. In 2004 he founded EarthEcho International; a leading environmental education organization dedicated to inspiring youth to take action for a sustainable planet. With programs in North America, the Galapagos, Caribbean, Australia and Europe, EarthEcho directly engages hundreds of thousands of youth each year.

Annie Douglass

Executive Vice President, May Media Group

Annie Douglass is the executive vice president of May Media Group and the creator of the successful WOW Summit events, but she is better known as “Chief Mom Ambassador.” She is dedicated to helping parents raise healthier families and has been the driving force behind growing the Moms Meet community. While she takes great pride in her career, her biggest achievement in life is being a wife to an amazing man and raising her three kids.

Maureen Frost

Editorial Director, KIWI magazine

Maureen is the editorial director of KIWI magazine and Moms Meet and mother of two. She’s passionate about educating the KIWI audience on green living, environmental issues, and health and wellness. She enjoys sharing the mom experience with the loyal Moms Meet community while helping parents everywhere to raise happy, healthy families.

Janel Funk

Registered Dietitian and Lactation Specialist, Happy Family Organics  

Janel Funk holds a master’s degree in nutrition communication from Tufts University and serves as a Happy Baby Expert for Happy Family Organics. Janel, along with a team of lactation consultants and registered dietitian nutritionists, provides infant feeding and nutrition support for pregnancy, lactation, starting solids, picky eating and beyond on the Happy Family Organics website. She has a passion for making healthy eating simple, sustainable, and delicious by providing understandable nutrition information alongside achievable wellness goals. Janel is also a mom of three, including twins! 

Jaclyn Gerakios

Expeditions Manager, EarthEcho International

Jaclyn Gerakios is an avid ocean advocate. She earned a Bachelor’s degree from Ohio University in Marine Biology and a Master’s degree from Nova Southeastern University in Environmental Education. She has worked as an aquarist, marine science educator, water quality technician, and even a mermaid. Over seven years as a classroom teacher, Jaclyn taught grades 5-12 all subjects of science, including marine biology and environmental science. Jaclyn is a SCUBA instructor and also volunteers her time with a local sea turtle patrol during nesting season as a supervisor, monitoring the beach for turtle nests and hatchlings. She is a past president of the Florida Marine Science Educators Association and was on the board of directors for many years. Through her work with EarthEcho International, she has planned expeditions for teachers and engaging online professional development opportunities. Jaclyn lives in Florida with her husband and son.

Chrissy Kissinger

Senior Project Manager, Moms Meet

Chrissy Kissinger is a Senior Project Manager for Moms Meet, mother of two, and seasoned professional in fundraising, event management, and marketing. Chrissy joined Moms Meet in 2018 and since then has been an innovative and instrumental member of the team. Stacey Rafalowski

After spending nearly 20 years in marine science and science education, Stacey Rafalowski has invested a career in improving the way learning happens for young scientists and environmentalists. In her role directing EarthEcho International’s program development, she has spearheaded the creation of EarthEcho’s signature adventure learning and teacher development programs while expanding offerings to support impactful integration of youth leadership. In her positions prior to joining EarthEcho, Stacey focused on building school and community support around innovative programs that combine environmental education, civic agency, and service-learning. She continues to build networks of support for formal and informal educators to enhance learning strategies around STEM and marine education.

Dr. Charles Rolsky

Director of Science, North America, Plastic Oceans

Dr. Charles Rolsky (Charlie) is director of Science, North America, for Plastic Oceans International. Charlie conducts research at the Arizona State University (ASU) Biodesign Center for Environmental Health Engineering where he works on marine and aquatic plastic pollution, a major concern within many ecosystems and environments around the world. Charlie also works on using non-invasive research methods to collect species health information which provides significant knowledge pertaining to stress, reproduction, and overall species health. Charles is an author of new marine microplastics research that finds “plastic waste has been documented in nearly all types of marine environments and has been found in species spanning all levels of marine food webs.” The report was published in the journal Environmental Science and Technology on June 6, 2019: “The Vertical Distribution and Biological Transport of Marine Microplastics Across the Epipelagic and Mesopelagic Water Column”.

Dr. Nilong Vyas

Board-certified pediatrician and sleep consultant, Sleepless in NOLA

Dr. Nilong Vyas is a board-certified pediatrician, founder of the sleep consultant service Sleepless in NOLA, and mother of two beautiful boys. She earned a masters in public health from Tulane University and medical doctorate from LSU Health Sciences Center, and worked as an ER physician at Children’s Hospital in New Orleans. Dr. Nilong passionately believes that well-rested children develop better socially, emotionally, and academically with fewer behavior problems.
