  • 5 small feathers

  • Fabric glue

Tail

  • Sweatshirt scraps
  • Thin wire

Instructions

Body Cut off the sweatshirt’s sleeves three inches from the neck. Turn the sweatshirt inside out. Fold under the raw edges and lightly stitch them in place. Cut a small slit on the inside of the hem. Using a safety pin attached to the elastic, pull through the bottom casing. Sew the two ends together to create the bird body. Add a pillow under the sweatshirt to give the body shape, and dress your child in colorful pajamas.

Feathers Cut plastic shopping bags into 8-by-1-inch strips with points at each end. Knot each strip in the middle. Using a piece of the sweatshirt sleeve, cut a 14-by-2-inch strip, and sew the plastic feathers to it. Attach seam binding to the top edge and leave 10 extra inches on either side to tie behind your child’s neck.

Beak Cut a triangle out of a cereal box wide enough to cover the baseball cap brim. Curve the top to match the curve of the cap. Then, cut an elongated figure eight shape out of the cereal box (this will cover the seam where the triangle meets the cap). Cover both shapes with orange felt and glue to the brim of the cap. Using a small piece of yellow sweatshirt wrap several feathers together and glue to the top of the cap. Add eyes with buttons and fabric glue.
