How to Make a Robot Helmet

Want to make your robot costume shine bright? Follow these easy instructions for adding LED lights to your little guy’s custom helmet.

MATERIALS

  • 8-inch square box
  • Utility knife (with adult supervision)
  • Large nail
  • LED battery powered lights (We like these, from Jamali Garden)
  • 13 nuts
  • Yellow duct tape
  • 2 2½ inch square boxes
  • Hot-glue gun (with adult supervision)
  • Orange, green, and red tape
  • 1 wrapping paper tube
  • 2 metal pot scrubbers
  • Old metal hanger

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Secure one end of the 8-inch box with tape. Cut the flaps off the other side and, on an adjacent side, cut a 5-by-5-inch domed opening for the face.
  2. Use a large nail to poke 13 holes around the face opening and poke a single bulb through each hole from the inside of the box.
  3. Glue the nuts around the lights using hot glue.
  4. Tape the battery pack to the inside of the helmet using duct tape.
  5. Hot-glue a small box to each side of the helmet, and decorate with tape.
  6. Cut cardboard tube into two 14-inch pieces and decorate with tape. Hot-glue the tubes to the small boxes on each side of the helmet.

Hot-glue pot scrubbers to the top of the tubes. Connect them with a zigzag wire, from an old hanger, using glue.
