Materials
- 1 piece of thick cardboard
- Variety of old greeting cards
- Nontoxic glue or double-sided tape
- Scissors
- Sheet of contact paper (as a more eco-friendly alternative, you can cover the collage with clear, nontoxic glue thinned with water or a nontoxic clear paint)
Instructions
- Cut cardboard in the appropriate size of a place mat (or trace one you already have).
- Cut the cards into various shapes, focusing on your favorite features, (whether it’s a picture, a quote, or just a pretty color).
- Lay the pieces on the cardboard, playing around with placement until you like the look. Put a bit of double-sided tape or glue on the back of each piece and layer them on the mat. If parts of the cards stick over the edges of the mat, trim them off.
- Peel back 3 inches from one side of the contact paper. Leaving 1-2 inches to fold around the back, lay the contact paper over one edge of the mat. Smooth it on the edge, then peel and smooth the rest of the way across the mat. Fold the contact paper over the back.
- Add your child’s name and the date on the back, so you won’t forget when this memory was made.
