Ingredients

Makes 4 servings

2 cups shelled walnuts

¼ cup sugar

¼ cup water

¼ teaspoon salt

⅛ teaspoon cayenne pepper

¼ teaspoon smoked paprika

These are great any time of year, but around the holidays make a perfect light snack. These can be tossed on a salad with goat cheese or used as part of a charcuterie board. Walnuts are rich in omega-3 fats and contain higher amounts of antioxidants than most other foods. Eating walnuts may improve brain health and can protect against heart disease and cancer.

Directions

1. In a heavy skillet over medium heat, combine all ingredients. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly until all of the liquids have evaporated and the walnuts are coated with sugar and spices.

2. Spread on a non-stick cookie sheet, separating the nuts and allowing them to cool completely before serving.
