Weed ‘Em and Reap

Celebrate National Parks and Recreation Month this July with an activity that helps protect your local park: pulling weeds. No, really it makes a difference! That’s because some non-native plants can become invasive species, disrupting the ecosystem by spreading diseases and competing with native flora for food and space. Control programs for invasive species give volunteers a chance to literally weed out plants that are destroying their park’s landscapes, says Rich Dolesh, vice president for conservation and parks for the National Recreation and Park Association.
