The Chinese New Year begins on February 19, and 2015 is the year of the sheep. Make this eco-friendly marionette to celebrate!
Materials
- Paper towel tube
- Scissors
- Old white sweater
- Hot glue
- White scrap felt
- Black marker
- 2 buttons
- Yarn
- 8 pennies
- 4 bottle caps
- Toothpick
- 1 pair of chopsticks
- Cotton balls
Instructions
1. Cut a 6-inch piece and a 1 1⁄2-inch piece of paper towel tube.
2. Cut two rectangles (one 6 inches by 3 inches and the other 3 inches by 1 1⁄2 inches) out of the sweater.
3. Wrap each tube in the fabric, securing with glue.
4. Cut a pear-shaped piece of felt and draw on a snout with marker. Cut two felt triangles for ears. Glue the felt pieces and buttons onto the small tube for a face.
5. Cut four pieces of yarn. Glue two pennies into each bottle cap, then attach one cap to the end of each piece of yarn. Glue the legs to the body tube.
6. Cut a 1-inch piece of yarn. Glue the string to the inside of the sheep’s head and body to connect the two.
7. Poke two holes using a toothpick, one near the top open edge of the head and one at the top center of the body.
8. Cut a 4-inch and 6-inch piece of yarn, knotting them at one end. Lace the longer piece through the body tube and out the center hole. Lace the shorter piece into the head and out that hole. Secure the other ends to chopsticks.
9. Fill the sheep’s head and body with cotton balls, and glue another cotton ball on the end of the body for a tail.
